Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho saddened by Barcelona transfer failure, says Neymar.

Neymar has admitted Philippe Coutinho is going through ‘a moment of anguish, disappointment and sadness’ as Liverpool continue to block his proposed transfer to Barcelona.
The Paris Saint-Germain forward, a long-time friend of Coutinho, managed to get his big move this summer as he quit Barcelona for a big-money switch to the French capital, which led to Barca pursuing Coutinho.

However, Liverpool have stood firm and reportedly rejected a bid of around £138million for their star player, though there remain a few hours left in the Spanish transfer window.

Commenting on his Brazil team-mate’s situation, Neymar admitted Coutinho was unhappy at seeing the move fall through and expressed his support for him in this difficult time.

‘Unfortunately, instead of being a happy time for him (Coutinho), for his family, it’s a moment of anguish, disappointment and sadness,’ Neymar told reporters.

‘I like to see him happy because he is a teammate and a friend that I’ve had for a long time.

‘He was rewarded with a goal (against Ecuador) today, for his and our joy.’

Barcelona have also been linked with the likes of Angel Di Maria and Thomas Lemar in the attacking midfield positions, but may have left it too late to get any further business done this summer. They recently signed Ousmane Dembele from Borussia Dortmund as a direct replacement for Neymar in attack, but director Robert Fernandez recently expressed his desire to bring in one or two more players before tonight’s deadline.
