Diego Costa admits he is disappointed in the way he’s wound up leaving Chelsea as he closes in on finalising his transfer back to Atletico Madrid


The 28-year-old jetted off to Spain today to complete his return to his former club, with Chelsea confirming yesterday that they’d reached an agreement over his departure.
Costa starred for Chelsea in his three seasons at Stamford Bridge, but fell out with manager Antonio Conte in January and was informed he would not be kept on this summer.

Despite failing to finalise a move to Atletico in the summer transfer window, Costa is now poised to register with the club in the new year and is now finalising personal terms and undergoing medical checks.Having been mobbed by fans back in Madrid, Costa thanked Atletico for bringing him back but admitted he regrets the way he’s ended up leaving Chelsea.‘I am very happy to be home. Everyone knew that I wanted to return to Atletico Madrid,’ he said.

‘It’s not the way I wanted to leave. I’m not a person who’s going to smear the image.’

Costa had also been quoted earlier in the day as saying he held no hard feelings towards the Blues or
their fan.
